Euromaintenance 26
3. July 2026
Euromaintenance 2026 was held in Luleå, Sweden, from 23–26 June. The Euromaintenance conference takes place every two years and is one of Europe's largest and most important events in the field of maintenance and asset management. The conference is organized by the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies (EFNMS) in cooperation with local hosts, which this year were the Swedish Maintenance Society (SVUH) and Luleå University of Technology. The Icelandic Maintenance and Asset Management Society (EVS) has been an active member of EFNMS since 2016. DMM Lausnir is one of the founding members of EVS, and Guðmundur Jón Bjarnason, Managing Director of DMM Lausnir, serves as EVS's representative to EFNMS.
Six Icelanders attended the conference, which brought together approximately 300 professionals, academics, and representatives of companies and institutions from 39 countries. Participants met to discuss the latest developments in maintenance and asset management, share experiences, and present solutions that contribute to improved efficiency, sustainability, and operational reliability. The programme featured a wide range of presentations and workshops where attendees explored the latest research, technological innovations, and best practices, while also strengthening their professional networks and laying the groundwork for further international cooperation.
Alongside the conference, the Maintenance Manager Award ceremony was also held. This award is one of the most prestigious recognitions in Europe within the field of maintenance management. It is presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in maintenance leadership, implemented innovative solutions, and made a positive impact on the development of the profession. Gaukur Garðarsson of Rio Tinto ISAL was nominated for this award and advanced to the final three candidates selected for interview by the judging panel. Although the award ultimately went to a representative from Barilla, Italy, we are proud of Gaukur and his achievement. This recognition serves as an encouragement for him and for all the outstanding professionals responsible for asset and maintenance management within Icelandic companies, who are, indeed, important pillars of Icelandic society.
