New website for DMM Lausnir

1. September 2025

The new website for DMM Lausnir went live today. The site was developed by Dacoda, with consulting support from Jakob Ómarsson. We sincerely thank Jakob and the Dacoda team for their excellent work. We believe the result is a success—the site clearly communicates the core focus of DMM and asset and maintenance management, with a user-friendly and intuitive flow. As stated on the site, we are always ready for conversation, consultation, and further information sharing with companies interested in using DMM for structured and efficient asset and maintenance management.

Grindavik is using DMM

5. August 2025

As we know, the employees and residents of Grindavík are facing unprecedented circumstances. Grindavík locals are known for their resilience and determination, working tirelessly to restore infrastructure and ensure the safety of their town. Before the seismic activity began, the municipality of Grindavík had already made significant progress in implementing DMM for asset and maintenance management, including various repairs and, in particular, preventive maintenance and inspections. One of the key benefits of using a software system like DMM is the discipline and structure it brings, which in turn leads to more consistent execution of tasks, better organization, more efficient work processes, and improved documentation and data handling. It is well known that when municipalities, companies, or institutions face uncertain conditions, operations that rely on structure and planning—such as asset and maintenance management—can suffer. Processes become less structured, tasks are improvised, and documentation is often postponed or forgotten altogether. This has not been the case in Grindavík. Tasks and related information—such as asset condition assessments, damage evaluations, and repairs—continue to be recorded in DMM. As presented by Sigurður R. Karlsson from the municipality, this was a deliberate decision made on November 11, 2023: all deviations and their handling were to be documented in DMM. This decision has simplified processes and provided a solid foundation for successful follow-up actions. This is an outstanding example for any company, municipality, or institution looking to implement more structured practices in maintenance management—typically under far better conditions than those currently faced by the people of Grindavík. Well done!

Scheduling Work Orders - new features

6. June 2025

DMM has long offered functionality for registering employee work tools and estimating time on tasks based on roles and down to individual employees. Additionally, DMM allows users to create so-called presets/favourites to save and store specific screen views. Systems like DMM offer virtually unlimited possibilities for retrieving and organizing information, so it’s important to be able to “save” selected views that users want to access repeatedly. It is very common among companies with structured asset and maintenance management to plan the upcoming week carefully, ensuring that tasks are well scheduled, ready for execution, and that workload is reasonably distributed among employees. In the DMM web portal, DMM 4, the presentation of this data has now been made more visual, allowing planners to quickly assess whether task distribution among individuals and teams is reasonable. These views can be saved as presets and bundled into so-called perspectives. Perspectives can store selected live “information views” from DMM, which managers can quickly access during, for example, Monday or morning meetings to review upcoming tasks with staff and fine-tune as needed.

Planning and scheduling, EVS spring meeting

15. May 2025

The spring meeting of the Asset and Maintenance Management Association of Iceland (EVS) was held at Grundartangi, hosted by Norðurál, on Thursday, May 15. Norðurál offered a site visit, and it was truly inspiring to see and hear how the operations have evolved—with innovative technologies actively utilized and excellent working conditions for staff. Ásmundur Jónsson from Alvotech presented the Icelandic translation of the standard EN 17007: Maintenance Processes and Associated Indicators, which is expected to be finalized later this summer. This standard originates from CEN/TC319, a technical committee that includes many representatives from EFNMS, the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies. The standard plays a key role within EFNMS in harmonizing information exchange and serves as a foundation for training programs. EVS has funded the translation of this standard, which will be shared with member organizations and participants in EVS certification courses in maintenance management. Ásmundur also discussed performance assessment in maintenance management. Garðar Garðarsson from Landsvirkjun gave a presentation on European priorities in asset management, and Guðmundur Jón Bjarnason from DMM Lausnir introduced the EVS certification course for maintenance managers, which will be held this autumn. The course is nearly fully booked, and the aim is to make it an annual autumn event. Last but not least, Auður Freyja Kjartansdóttir presented Norðurál’s maintenance planning and scheduling approach. She explained how tasks are planned week by week to ensure optimal use of manpower, readiness of spare parts and other resources, and strict attention to safety. Effective maintenance planning is crucial for workflow and achieving results in maintenance operations, and software systems for asset and maintenance management play an important role in supporting planning and task coordination.

EFNMS GA meeting in Vilnius

10. May 2025

The European Federation of National Maintenance Societies (EFNMS) holds General Assembly (GA) meetings twice a year. The Asset and Maintenance Management Association of Iceland (EVS) is a member of EFNMS and actively participates in its work. The GA meeting was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on May 9–10. Topics discussed at the meeting included the EFNMS Body of Knowledge, alignment of training programs for both asset and maintenance management, and sustainability in maintenance management—in connection with the More4Sustainability project, where the Belgian maintenance association BEMAS plays a key role. A new EFNMS president was also elected. The candidates were Mia Ilkko representing the Swedish maintenance association and Diego Galar representing the Spanish association. Diego won the election and will take over as president from Cosmas Vamvalis of Greece this autumn. EVS representatives at the meeting were Garðar Garðarsson from Landsvirkjun, a member of the EAMC committee on asset management, Ásmundur Jónsson from Alvotech, a member of the EMAC committee on standards and certification, and Guðmundur Jón Bjarnason from DMM Lausnir, a member of the ECC committee on training and certification for professionals in the maintenance field. In the attached photo, from left to right, are Ásmundur, Guðmundur, and Garðar standing on Iceland Street in Vilnius. The street was named in recognition of Iceland being the first country to acknowledge Lithuania’s independence from Russia in 1991.

DMM supports HS Veitur quality system

14. February 2025

DMM plays a key role at HS Veitur in monitoring, condition assessment, and maintenance of distribution systems, as well as in their development and expansion. HS Veitur follows documented and recognized procedures that DMM supports. This ensures that processes are followed in a structured, visible, and traceable manner, contributing to employee safety, operational reliability, and quality service for customers. DMM is therefore an important part of HS Veitur’s quality system, both in daily operations and during internal and external audits. A recent internal audit was conducted based on data from DMM. The audit revealed strong performance by staff and also sparked new ideas for even greater efficiency.
