Failure reporting in DMM

27. March 2026

Failure reporting is a cornerstone of asset and maintenance management, as few things provide clearer insight into operational performance than well-structured failure records. In this sense, failure reporting is a key component of the “annual accounts” of asset and maintenance management.

Many of our customers implement disciplined and reliable failure reporting in DMM to gain a clear understanding of the reliability of individual assets and systems, equipment and machinery availability, as well as uptime and security of supply.

DMM offers a high degree of configurability, allowing failure reporting to be tailored to the specific operational context in question. The objective is to enable focused reporting and generate reliable data, which is not only essential for audits of various kinds but, more importantly, serves as a vital indicator of where further improvements can be made.

In this context, it is worth noting that standardized reporting frameworks exist for certain sectors. One example is the joint disturbance and curtailment reporting used by Icelandic utility companies, commonly referred to as START reporting, which many utilities record directly in DMM. START reports are then submitted electronically to EFLA, which maintains and manages such records on behalf of Icelandic utilities.
